Marco Schmitt woke up this morning and got himself a line of speed. He is on a crazy Madre road trip, driving through tunnels like a speed-boring machine, sucking out the Madre Juice of its own bored straw.  Driving on bridges above all Madre lines. He is driving to reach Madre. He is driving to get Madre. He is driving to be Madre. Madre is sitting in the Backseat. 

The radio sings: Let it roll. Let it roll. Let it roll.  He sings: Let it roll. Let it roll. Let it roll.  She sings: Let it roll. Let it roll. Let it roll. 

He gets high. She gets high. He gets high. She gets high. He gets high. She gets high. He picks up The Hitchhikers from the highway, not knowing that they are coming. The Hitchhikers tell him stories of The Highhikers on The Hitch of Madre. The lower he drives in the day. The higher he drives in the night. The higher they get on the Highway, he picks up more of The Hitchhikers. 


The Hitchhikers are 48, so far they are:

And they’re getting more from week to week. From day to day. From hour to hour. They know the day destroys the night. Night divides the day. 

We’re gonna have a real good time at Madre’s roadhouse. You gotta thrill my soul, alright! You gotta drill my soul! They stopped on a park king a lot and chased pleasures here and dug treasures there. But can you still recall the time we cried?

They sing: Break on through to the other side. Break on through to the other side. Break on through to the other side. 

The future’s uncertain and the end is always near. They find an island in your arms. A galaxy in your eyes. She gets high. They get high. You get high. She gets high. They get high. You get high. Sign on the road says: Take us to Madre. The Madre sign is built of 48 united states of Madre. The Madre gate is straight, deep and wide. They break on through to the other side into a different state and drive beyond…


Marco Schmitt (Germany) studied in film, performance, and installation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Germany, as a student of artist Christian Jankowski.  He also studied at the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and Art Academy, Vienna. He is currently a recipient of a scholarship for graduate studies awarded by the German state. Since 2006 his work has been presented in international group and solo shows at museums and galleries including Casa del Lago, Mexico City; Invisible Exports, New York; Richmond Art Center, California;  Wiensowski & Harbord, Berlin; Kunstmuseum, Stuttgart and Self-Service, Stuttgart. His work is represented in the collections of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and various private collections. Currently he is promoting artists in USA, in addition to the development of specific actions and projects for the local context.
